Slate and tile roof repairs
Slipped, cracked or missing slates and tiles, loose ridge tiles and worn mortar, repaired to match the roof you already have.

A drip through the ceiling is stressful, and the hardest part is often working out where it's coming from. Water can travel along timbers and felt before it shows indoors, so the stain on your ceiling isn't always under the actual fault. A roofer who repairs leaks regularly knows where to look. Tell us what's happening and a local roofer will get in touch to trace the leak and fix the cause.

Thanks, we've got your request. A local roofer will be in touch as soon as possible. If water is coming in now, put a bucket under it and keep clear of anything that might fall.
While you wait, put a bucket under drips and move valuables and electrics away from the area. If water is near light fittings, switch that circuit off at the consumer unit. Don't climb onto the roof yourself.
Most roof leaks come from a handful of places. Lead flashing, where the roof meets a chimney or wall, can crack or pull away. Valleys, where two roof slopes meet, collect a lot of water and wear over time. Slipped or broken slates and tiles let rain straight through. Ridge mortar cracks, and flat roof seams split. The roofer will usually start in the loft to find the wet area, then check the roof outside above it and uphill from it.
Once the cause is found, the repair is targeted: new flashing, a resealed valley, replaced slates or a patched flat roof. If the leak has been going for a while, the roofer may also check for damp timbers or insulation that needs drying out or replacing.

Chimneys are a common source of leaks on Exeter's older houses, where flashing and mortar have weathered for decades. In Cullompton's historic centre, for example, Mid Devon's appraisal notes the red clay brick chimneys that sit along most ridges. Devon's wind-driven rain also pushes water sideways into gaps that would stay dry in a more sheltered climate, so a leak may only show in certain wind directions. Tell the roofer when you notice it; that detail helps.
Use the form to tell us where the water is showing, when it happens and how bad it is. If water is coming in now, choose 'urgent' and a local roofer will aim to get to you as quickly as possible. They'll trace the leak, explain the cause and quote for the repair.

It depends on the job. As a guide, MyJobQuote's October 2026 UK figures put replacing a handful of slipped tiles at around £150–£350, a minor leak repair at £150–£400, and a flat roof patch repair at £200–£700. Bigger jobs, like a sagging roof section, can run into thousands. Your roofer will give you a fixed quote after inspecting the roof.
It depends on the job and the time of year. Urgent jobs, like active leaks and storm damage, are prioritised, and the roofer will aim to get to you as quickly as possible. Non-urgent repairs are booked at a time that suits you. Winter storms are the busiest time, so getting small faults fixed in the autumn helps.

We pass your enquiry to an established local roofer covering your area. They'll contact you, usually by phone, to ask a few questions and arrange a visit. After inspecting the roof, they'll give you a quote, and you decide whether to go ahead.
Put buckets under any drips, move belongings and electrics away from wet areas, and switch off any lighting circuit where water is near fittings. Take photos of the damage. Don't go up on the roof yourself.
Many policies cover sudden damage, such as storm damage, but not wear and tear. Check your own policy. If you're claiming, take photos, keep receipts and tell your insurer early. Most insurers expect you to stop further damage, which is what an emergency make-safe repair does.
Water often runs along rafters, battens or felt before it drips through, so the stain on your ceiling can be some distance from the actual fault. That's why a roofer usually starts in the loft and works outwards.
